Creekland continues to work very hard to ensure a safe school environment that is free from disruptions and distractions. It is the responsibility of each of us - parents, students, and staff members - to create a secure learning environment for all students. Together we can keep Creekland Middle a safe school.

Some of the things we are doing to ensure student safety include:

Assistant principals meet with all classes to discuss expectations and strategies for maintaining a safe school environment.
Keeping all outside doors locked during school hours except main entrance locations.
Clear expectations for appropriate school bus behavior. The progression of consequences begins with our Bus Safety Program for students and parents.
Requiring identification when picking up a child at school.

Restricting morning drop-off of students to the entrance at the CMS Lower Gym.

NOTE:
Staff workday is 8:30-4:30 so there is no one to supervise students prior to 8:30 unless student has pre-arranged a meeting with a specific instructor. Students should be dropped off at the lower gym entrance.

Having a designated, supervised parent drop-off and pick-up area located near the lower gym.

Requiring late afternoon pick-up at the front of the school for students who remain for clubs, meetings, team activities, etc.

Scheduling parent volunteers on duty at the front entrance to direct visitors to approved locations.

Requiring all visitors to report to the front office before going anywhere else on campus.

Requiring staff members, substitute teachers and all visitors to display appropriate identification badges.

Enforcing zero tolerance for drugs, weapons, gangs, and hate groups. *

Working closely with our School Resource Officer (SRO).

Publishing to all staff an emergency and crisis plan.

Enforcing an approved dress code that limits distractions and supports a positive learning environment.

Having emergency call-back buttons in all classrooms.

Having emergency notification (red cards) in every classroom, used to summon immediate help, if needed.

Having walkie-talkies throughout the building for regular and emergency communications.

*SPECIAL NOTICE: The Georgia Weapons Law (O.C.G.A. 16-11-127.1) added "razor blades" to the list of felony weapons that are not allowed on school property. This law also reduced the length of the blade of a felony knife from three inches (3") to two inches (2"). Most pocket knives fall into the felony category.
